Hofstra University

Hofstra Law School's history is one of vision, commitment to excellence and extraordinary success. The Law School was founded in 1970 to create a unique environment, a place which provides a superb legal education, in the broadest sense, to generations of competent and ethical attorneys; a place which makes meaningful contributions to the dialogue on pressing social issues of national and local importance and which brings together a diversity of students, faculty, judges, lawyers, scholars and professionals from a variety of disciplines in an effort to broaden the perspectives of all.  From its inception, Hofstra Law School has provided an education that is rich not only in theory, but also in teaching the skills needed to groom effective lawyers. We were one of the first schools in the country to adopt clinical education and have served for many years as the regional center for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. Currently, we offer seven client representation clinics as well as extensive externship and pro bono opportunities. Our cutting edge skills programs focus on training students to become outstanding attorneys and allow them to study and practice alongside experienced attorneys.

Our curriculum evolves each year to address changes in the law and practice. Most recently we became one of the first law schools in the country to institute a first-year required course in transnational law. Expanding on our unique strength in family law, we launched an LL.M. program in Family Law. We also offer graduate degree opportunities in American Legal Studies and International Law.

Hofstra Law School boasts a student body of more than 1,200 students, with an alumni base of nearly 9,000 members. Our distinguished faculty, comprised of more than 50 members, includes many outstanding scholars who are often recognized as national and international experts in their fields. Our students benefit from an atmosphere of intellectual excitement, personal support, and cooperative learning.

Hofstra Law School is part of Hofstra University, a private, nonsectarian, coeducational institution, dedicated to providing a strong foundation in the liberal arts and sciences. Hofstra offers its students a wide range of undergraduate, graduate and professional programs.

Hofstra Law School is fully accredited by the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools. We offer full-time and part-time programs as well as joint degree opportunities, including a J.D./M.S. in Taxation, a J.D./M.B.A. with Hofstra's Zarb School of Business and a J.D./M.A. with Hofstra University’s Department of Sociology.
